Temple Beth Hillel Joins March Against Hate

Members of Temple Beth Hillel joined other Congregations in a March of solidarity in Antioch on September 23.

The demonstration was organized by the Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County in support of the Islamic Center of the East Bay following the August 12th arson fire that destroyed the mosque of Center. Although there was insufficient evidence to call the incident an “hate crime” it should be noted that prior to the fire there had been three incidences of break-ins and vandalism at the Center within the last year.

We think it is important to take a stand against any religious intolerance. It was just a few years ago three Temples
in Sacramento were burned by arsonists.  The event began with a rally in front of City Hall that featured Muslim, Jewish and Christian prayers and words from state Sen. Tom Torlakson; state Assemblymember Mark DeSaulnier; Antioch Mayor Donald Freitas, Councilman Reggie Moore and Police Chief Jim Hyde; Pittsburg Mayor Ben Johnson; and other dignitaries.
